Man Menopause Peri Menopause Symptom Age Of Menopause

Alleviating Menopausal Symptoms With Health Foods and Herbs

by Jim King

Yes, many women simply cannot bear the thought of having to undergo HRT or Hormone Replacement Therapy for the rest of their lives. There is always the fear that it comes bundled with potential risks. This is why more and more women are looking at alternate methods of coping with menopause.

Here are the stages of menopause in a womans life. The first stage begins around the age of 40. This is when the ovaries first start slowing down in most women and start producing less of the hormone estrogen. So there is a slight change in the periods sometimes heavier and sometimes lighter. This is followed by the second stage which is the transition phase to actual menopause. Yes, the erratic periods could go on but you also start experiencing vaginal dryness, hot flashes, insomnia and mood swings. And they dont just visit occasionally- they become part of your life! Then comes the actual menopause. This usually happens a bit after you turn 50 and you are said to be past it when a full year goes by without getting a period. It is these in between years that are the tough ones.

What wouldnt you give for natural alternatives to HRT? But there are, you know. And not too many people know or recommend them even though it is much better for women to go the natural route at this stage. The first thing to do would be to make a few changes in your diet. Include a lot of fish and vegetables in your diet and cut out the coffee, tea, dairy products that are high-fat, alcohol, salt, too much oil and sugar. These can increase the symptoms. Also make sure you take a multivitamin every day and though this should not be a substitute, it is good to get your daily need of nutrients.

Menopause also has mood swings which women have to contend with during this time. What helps a lot is meditation, deep breathing or some form of relaxation. If you can spare around 20 minutes each day, you will benefit greatly. It leaves you feeling in control, much more calm and relaxed and able to cope. You should also exercise regularly, at least three times a week, thirty minutes each time. This is said to reduce hot flashes as well as lessen the possibilities of heart problems and osteoporosis. Acupressure and yoga help as well.

You should also take the herbal route. There are plants and herbs called phytoestrogens which tend to help the estrogen activity in the body. These contain the compounds phytoseterols, isoflavins, lignans and saponins. Not only does it get you through menopause, it also reduces the occurrence of breast tumors. Other herbs and foods that are helpful to mitigate the symptoms of menopause are: Honduran sarsaparilla, ladys slipper, liferoot, Soy, black cohosh, licorice, dates, elder, false unicorn root, fennel, alfalfa, chasteberry, Chinese angelica, Mexican wild yams, passion flower, pomegranates, red clover, strawberry, celery stalks and sassafras. Youll find most of them in your local health food store. Do include as many of them as you can in your diet, as often as you can and youll probably find you sail through your menopause with as few problems and as little discomfort as possible!

Women Lose Hair Too!

by Arturo Ronzon

Women are basically more fashion conscious as compared to men. They are naturally protective about their looks and tend to take far better care of themselves as compared to men. When you think of hair loss, the first thing that will strike your mind are bald mens. There is no doubt that even women have hair loss; however, it is not as severe as in men. Hair loss in women is generally less extensive in terms of severity. Moreover, women are far better in disguising hair loss.

Causes of hair loss in women

There are different reasons for hair loss in women. However some of the most common reasons for hair loss in women are

1. Age is an important factor that results in thinning of hair in women. As she ages, her hair starts to lose the luster and shine, thereby making it weak.

2. Another common criterion for hair loss in women are seen when she stops taking birth control pills. Women often tend to stop the intake of birth control pills after giving birth and after entering the menopause stage; as a result they have a sudden loss of estrogen that leads to hair loss.

3. Hair loss in women is also seen especially during a physical illness. It could be a severe fever infection, skin diseases, toxins, or lack of nutrients. However, the hair grows again as soon as the body starts recovering from the illness.

4. Another common reason that results in hair loss in women is use of bleaches, relaxes to color hair for fashion and style. It is often seen that hair becomes soapy in texture and easily breaks off after use of such chemical stuffs.

5. Telogen effluvium is another cause of hair loss in women and this is unsurprisingly given to the nature of condition.

Treatments for thinning of hair in women

Hair loss does not mean that you have to say goodbye to hairsprays, hair dyes, or hair perms. There is no way that these stuffs will worsen your problem. If you intend to reduce your hair loss then you need to read the following guidelines.

1. Hair loss is often caused due to lack of Iron efficiency in your body. You need to have lots of iron, which includes lean red meat, offal, egg yolks, leafy vegetables, and pulses.

2. Rogaine is also said to reduce hair loss in women by quite a margin. It is a lotion that needs to be applied to the scalp.

3. If you still feel that, your hair needs sever care from hair loss then its better you switch to hair transplantation. Hair Transplantation is a useful treatment for preventing hair loss for both men and women.

Soy, Menopause, Tofu and Infant Formulas

by Patricia Howitt

Soy Controversy

Major evidence now exists to suggest Soya bean is inappropriate for human and stock consumption at current levels. As a legume, it is known to contain phytoestrogens - plant versions of the female hormone estrogen. Phytoestrogens first came to the fore when farmers discovered that stock browsing quantities of red clover had reproductive difficulties. Research established that legumes are prime sources of phytoestrogens and this content was playing havoc with the animals reproductive systems.

In recent years, Western women have been encouraged to supplement their diets with Soy products at menopause to keep up their estrogen levels, on the premise that the higher intake of legumes by women in Eastern countries accounts for the apparent lack of menopausal problems there.

International research findings quoted in New Zealand Medical Journal of May 1995 and a Swiss Public Health paper indicated that 100gm of soy product has the estrogenic content of one contraceptive pill. Further research is beginning to reveal more of the Soy story.

Questions about the use of Soya-based infant formulas were first raised in New Zealand in late 1994 when Richard and Valerie James commissioned a scientific study following deaths and early maturing of parrot chicks at their aviary. The chicks had been reared solely on a commercial Soy-based bird-feeding product. The toxicologist carrying out the survey confirmed high levels of estrogenic compounds in the feed, and also in four infant formulas, likening the content to that of contraceptive pills. He confirmed that depending on age, quantity and feeding methods, infants on Soy formula might be consuming the toxic equivalent of up to 12 contraceptive pills a day.

After further studies by the manufacturers and the Ministry of Health, it was announced that there was insufficient evidence to implicate Soy.

More recently, questions were raised again, suggesting that Soy-based infant formulas should be available only on medical prescription. The Ministry of Health finally confirmed that infants with possible thyroid problems should not take Soya, and that it would be preferable if all Soy-based infant formulas were used only under medical supervision.

The Australian College of Paediatricians also warned that the use of Soya-based formulas might produce side effects.

Meanwhile, a variety of press statements were issued following a number of research projects on Soy:

(a) A study by the National Institute of Aging in Hawaii warned people in middle age to stay off tofu because of a risk of contracting Alzheimers disease. The Hawaiian researchers claim that phytoestrogens do not act like natural estrogens, and they are not necessarily good for humans. The 30 year study found that men who reported eating tofu at least twice weekly were 2.4 times more likely to have developed Alzheimers in old age than non-tofu eaters. [NZ Herald 8 June 1998]

(b) An American Academy of Science Report Toxicants Occurring Naturally in Foods stated that phytoestrogens are capable of producing growth of the vagina, uterus and mammary glands, and female secondary characteristics.

(c) A report from the University of Turku in Finland warned that, in doses exceeding the daily intake in Asia, phytoestrogens are potential hormone disrupters in males.

(d) In her book, The Phyto-Factor Maryon Stewart, founder of the British Womens Nutritional Advisory Service, claimed that phytoestrogens act in a similar way to the breast cancer drug tamoxifen in combating hormone-sensitive cancers, protecting against osteoporosis, heart attacks and menopausal flushes.

(e) Working on statistics from the World Health Organization, two official scientific panels concluded there was almost no evidence to suggest a link between phytoestrogens and a reduction of cancer risk. It was noted that while the Japanese and Chinese have lower than average rates of breast cancer, both countries have very high rates of stomach and liver cancer.

(f) The US Food and Drug Administration Center for Toxicological Research warned that phytoestrogens should be regarded as toxic rather than being treated as safe. This is because consumption of phytoestrogens carries an increased risk of goitre and thyroiditis, as well as a significant dose-dependent risk of developing dementia and brain atrophy from the consumption of tofu.

(g) A very significant volume of evidence is now emerging that children fed Soy formulas and women taking Soya products to assist with the menopause are developing serious thyroid problems and autoimmune diseases later in life.

What emerges from all of this material is a major question about the over-use of Soya in both adult and infant diets - especially infant diets, where an entirely foreign product is replacing natures intended food source.

Alternatives

Very little attention has been given in Western countries to the use of goats milk as a first line replacement for babies unable to tolerate cows milk.

Yet goats milk has been shown to be very suitable for the rearing of young of many species. David Mackenzie, the writer of the comprehensive, practical, thought-provoking and readable "Goat Husbandry" had this to say about goats milk in a chapter he called "The Universal Foster Mother":

"To the supreme honour of a place in the heavens, among the signs of their zodiac, the Greeks elevated three of their domestic animals: the Bull who drew their ploughs; the fleecy Ram who clothed them; and Capricorn the Goat.

"The name of the goat who earned this honour for her species was Almalactea - "Foster Milk". Her constellation still brightens the 20th Century sky.

"While relatively few of the newly born of other species can be satisfactorily reared on cows milk, however modified, there is probably not a single species among the larger land mammals whose young will not thrive on suitably adjusted goats milk. The reasons for the high digestibility of the constituents of goats milk have been explained in Chapter 3...

"Humans are ... for the most part, convinced that cows milk, which is designed to suit the fast growth rate of the calf, is perfectly suitable for feeding the slow-growing human infant ... but ... there is a massive collection of scientific evidence to show that all young farm stock, if fed on a diet too rich in digestible protein, are liable to mineral deficiency disease sooner or later."

Needless to say, we should take this to heart with regard to human infants, if we are considering raising them on cow's milk or on soy-based formulas.

Ovarian Cancer Prevention

by Lance Winslow

Ovarian cancer risks can be reduced. It might be wise to look into some of the research to develop the strategy, which is right for you. Here are a few ideas and thoughts on some of the things you might wish to add to your lifestyle or subtract in order to reduce your risks of ovarian cancer.

One way to reduce your risk of ovarian cancer is the use of oral contraceptives or birth control pills. This has been found to reduce the risks of ovarian cancer by up to 50% by those women who use them for up to three or more years. For those women who have had genetic screening and have been found to have mutations of certain genes may also get significant benefit although more study will be needed to confirm this.

Tying of the fallopian tubes can also significantly reduce risks of ovarian cancer by two-thirds or 66%. It might be an option for you if you are sure you are done with having your last child. There is also many studies suggesting that hysterectomies decrease the risks of ovarian cancer. Of course such operations probably are not a good idea unless there is another good medical reason. It is recommended for those women who have already been thru menopause or near menopause that ovaries should be removed with a hysterectomy operation.

Those women who have more than one child and breast feed for more than one year seem to have also reduced their risks of ovarian cancer. Those women who have children after age thirty-five also appear to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.

Of course it is best to discuss these issues with your doctor, get screening and have a strategy on reducing your risks of ovarian cancer. Do your own research and think on this.

Medications for PMS Relief May Be Disappointing

by Patsy Hamilton

If you have visited your doctor looking for PMS relief, you may have been disappointed. Even though the number of women who suffer from the condition is large and the effect it has on their lives and their families is evident, there is no medication that is an effective PMS treatment. In fact, researchers are still debating about how to diagnose PMS and assess the severity of symptoms.

The most severe form of PMS is premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and it affects an estimated 2-10% of all menstruating women. The symptoms include mood swings, feelings of hopelessness, anger, tension and anxiety. Since these symptoms can be related to a number of psychiatric conditions including depression and anxiety disorder, doctors make the diagnosis of PMDD based upon when the symptoms occur. If they begin and are present in most of the seven days leading up to the start of the menstrual period and disappear within the first few days after, then they are likely due to PMDD.

The only medications approved for treating PMDD are antidepressants. And, these are the most common choice for PMS treatment, no matter the level of severity, even though their effectiveness has not been proven and negative side effects can accompany their use. It isnt that doctors dont want to provide PMS relief. It is just that the cause or causes are unknown and can be related to numerous factors in a womans life. Hopefully, as the understanding of the condition expands and all of the components are better understood, doctors will be able to provide a treatment plan tailored to the individual and her unique symptoms. But, thats something that may be far in the future.

Much of the current research surrounding PMS treatment involves botanicals, a subject with which many doctors are unfamiliar. For years, the feeling existed in the medical community that herbs and plants were folk remedies at best, bordered on nonsense and could pose threats to our health. But, there are a growing number of healthcare professionals that recognize the potential of natural health care products and remember that many of todays modern medicines are derived from plants. Of course, plants and herbs cannot take the place of medical attention for serious health conditions and regular check-ups are a must for early detection and treatment of health threats. But, for PMS relief, plants and herbs work just fine. I can tell you that from personal experience.

It could be that doctors are afraid to recommend a PMS treatment that is not supported by the FDA, but one would think that they could at least provide a patient with known options and not speak negatively about a product with which they are unfamiliar. For example, at least six different clinical studies have shown the effectiveness of chasteberry for PMS relief. But, many doctors still will not recommend it and claim that it was found to be ineffective or had limited benefit. Why it works is unclear. Chemical evaluations have shown that it is a natural anti-inflammatory, inhibiting COX-2 (causes inflammation) activity, without affecting COX-1 enzymes (protect the lining of the stomach). One study suggested that it addressed more of the physical than the emotional symptoms of PMS. But, nature has another compound that works for those.

The seeds of an African plant provide the ingredient for a natural antidepressant called 5-HTP. A prescription antidepressant allows serotonin to be more efficiently used by the body. Studies have shown that women suffering from PMDD have lower levels of serotonin circulating in the bloodstream. 5-HTP can be used by the body to create more serotonin, thus increasing serotonin levels in the blood. Serotonin has many functions in the body, but most important for PMS treatment is that it helps to regulate mood. If you are currently taking a prescription antidepressant, you should check with your doctor before taking 5-HTP for PMS relief.

Hysterectomy and Menopause

by Jeanette Pollock

For some women, a hysterectomy is necessary to remove a cancerous tumor or stop the pain caused by endometriosis. If you have had a hysterectomy, but did not have your ovaries removed, then you will still go through menopause. Even though you do not have a monthly period, the ovaries will still be affected by the estrogen level decrease in the body. You will experience hot flashes and other symptoms. Only women who have had their uterus and ovaries removed will not go through menopause. This type of surgery is often called surgical menopause.

Having a hysterectomy, even though necessary, can still leave a woman with many questions. For instance, you may see symptoms of menopause appearing much earlier than usual. This is because menopause has begun earlier. There are many symptoms of menopause, and you should visit your doctor to see if menopause has started. Many times, women do not experience too many symptoms. This will vary from woman to woman. This is why it is important to be seen by a doctor.

It is important for all women going through menopause to eat a proper diet and exercise regularly. Getting the proper amount of vitamins each day will help maintain the body and keep symptoms of menopause from causing too much of a disturbance in your life. Having regular check ups by a doctor is also important especially if you had a hysterectomy due to cancer. Taking care of oneself will help you stay active, stay happy and enjoy life.

Don't Fool With Mother Nature

by Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

Stop the FlowPeriod. We did, a group of young looking talking heads intone. A woman in doctors garb continues to extol the virtues of not ever having a period again. You may recognize this as the latest commercial for a medical miraclestopping your menstrual cycle forever. The medical procedure to create this miracle is touted to be a walk in the park, a piece of cake, an opportunity too good to pass up. What the commercial doesnt tell you, is the inherent negative aftereffects of stopping your menstrual cycle.

The inherent negative aftereffects of stopping your menstrual cycle are immediate and 100% induced menopause with all the inherent metabolically associated changes, which are triggered immediately versus graduallythus throwing the body into a whirlwind in its attempt to maintain balance. A minor annoyance you might insist compared to having to endure the rigors of the monthly cycle. Guess again. The body is designed to go through its natural cycles naturallynot artificially.

The peri-menopause phase leading up to menopause allows the body to adjust metabolically as needed. The peri-menopause phase includes: an irregular menstrual cycle, skipping a month or more; light flow or spotting one month with heavy flow the next. This is all very common and normal in a woman's cycle. As the metabolical system reaches balance the body moves into complete menopause as a natural metabolical balance.

When the body is slammed into the sudden loss of the inherent metabolical chemicals all other systems attempt to make up for the loss to no avail. With the metabolic system out of balance the aftereffects are severe and then medication is prescribed to correct the chemical imbalance.

So, you can see this medical miracle isnt total gainyou are simply changing one set of symptoms for another. The only one who gains is the physician who performs the medical procedure and also prescribes the medication in a futile effort to rectify the loss of metabolical chemicals the body needs. You have become a life-time patient for this enterprising doctor.

It is a known fact that Japanese women tend to suffer with menstrual symptoms or hot flashes only about 1/3 as often as American women. Women on vegetarian diets also complain of hot flashes far less than women who eat meat. Of course, you dont have to give up those steaksbut doctors and nutritional professionals suspect that the difference is largely due to the use of soy products in the diets of these women, and many women have realized that by incorporating some soy in their diets, their menstrual symptoms and menopausal symptoms have abated considerably.

Other important supplements are:

Flaxseed: High in phytoestrogens (especially lignans), flaxseed also is high in omega-3 fatty acids -- a key helper in fighting heart disease. And, like soy, its a good all-round helper in your body. Its high in phytoestrogens, flaxseed can help minimize symptoms like hot flashes. Studies have shown that it can help lower LDL (the bad) cholesterol. Studies have shown that it helps fight breast cancer and other cancers. It can help prevent heavy bleeding -- a common symptom when youre first beginning to enter premature menopause and going through erratic periods. Because its high in omega-3 acids, it help ease symptoms like breast tenderness, cramping, and other PMS-like discomfort.

Red Clover (available under the brand name Promensil) is another phytoestrogen high in bioflavonoids. Like other phytoestrogens, red clover has been shown to reduce hot flashes, help fight osteoporosis, and generally minimize other menopausal symptoms. But there have recently been other studies that found that it wasn't as helpful as initially believed. As with so many other supplements, the jury is still out.

Vitamin E and Citrus Bioflavonoids: This combination is a hot-flash buster -- with studies showing that taking these two supplements together helps combat hot flashes. 400 IUs of Vitamin E along with 1200 mg of bioflavonoids taken in the morning and again before bedtime has been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes. (One note: Vitamin E isnt safe for everyone. If you have rheumatic heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes, or take digitalis drugs, Vitamin E can be harmful. So be sure to check with your doctor about the appropriate dosage.)

One study (conducted in the 1960s. . . unfortunately there have been few more recent studies) found that, after only one month, over 50 percent of the 94 participating women taking 1200 milligrams of bioflavonoids along with 1200 milligrams of Vitamin C stopped having hot flashes completely and another 34 percent had a drop in hot flash frequency and intensity. Studies have also shown that bioflavonoids also appear to help relieve moodiness, anxiety, irritability and other emotional side effects of menopause -- and can help fight vaginal dryness.
Vitamin E helps with vaginal dryness (you can even use it as a vaginal suppository -- just putting the capsule in your vagina.)

Vitamin A or Beta Carotene: If youre suffering from vaginal dryness -- or if youve noticed a change in your skin texture, a drying or loss of elasticity, Vitamin A or beta carotene can help. Vitamin A (which is what beta carotene converts to in your body) helps maintain tissues, skin, and mucous membraneshelp fight against vaginal dryness and skin changes that often come with low estrogen levels.

B-Vitamins: This family of vitamins helps in coping with premature menopause, both in terms of helping combat symptoms and fighting negative long-term risks. B vitamins can keep your energy levels up; support your liver function ( a definite plus if youre on HRT, as oral estrogen is broken down by your liver); prevent vaginal dryness; increase your resistance to infection; help maintain your adrenal gland function -- which is where the precursor to estrone (the form of estrogen still produced by your body after menopause) is produced. B vitamins are considered stress fighters -- so can help you to deal with the emotional symptoms that crop up during premature menopause such as: anxiety, irritability, mood swings, even insomnia.

In addition, if youre on HRT, its a good idea to be sure youre getting B-vitamins either through your diet (whole grains, beans and brewers yeast are all good sources of B vitamins) or in a multi-vitamin or B-complex supplement, since studies have shown that HRT may cause a deficiency in B2, B12, B6 and Biotin.

Calcium: A definite must to help prevent osteoporosis, calcium can also help lower blood pressure, reduce triglyceride levels (that sometimes rise in women on some forms of HRT.)
Magnesium: Magnesium is a very important calcium helper -- and also helps fight the crashing fatigue that often comes at the beginning of premature or early menopause by boosting energy levels.

Potassium: helps boost energy. It regularizes your heart beat, which can help if you get palpitations -- a fairly common symptom of menopause. In addition, it can help you cope with water retention and bloating, both of which are side effects with certain forms of HRT, particularly progestins such as Provera.

Black Cohosh: helps cut down on hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms, it help with cramps, heavy periods and other menstrual irregularities. Studies conducted using black cohosh have shown that it appears to be quite effective, especially for hot flashes. And some researchers believe it may help prevent osteoporosis and reduce bone resorption, although no long-term studies conducted on humans have substantiated this.

Chasteberry (Vitex agnus castus): This (like black cohosh) appears to act like a progesterone and has been used in Europe for many years to alleviate PMS symptoms as well as menopausal symptoms. It may help diminish both LH and FSH and appears to affect your pituitary function. Different studies have found that it reduced menopausal symptoms, particularly hot flashes and irregular bleeding. It is helpful for breast tenderness, primarily because chasteberry suppresses prolactin production. Typically, it takes about three to four weeks to notice results. One note, however: While chasteberry is widely used in Europe, there have been no double-blind placebo studies conducted on it.

Evening Primrose Oil: A good source of GLA (gamma linoleic acid), evening primrose oil has been used by many women to help fight PMS symptoms -- many of which are the same as menopausal symptoms. Its a good bet to help prevent bloating, water retention, breast tenderness, cramps and vaginal dryness.

St. Johns Wort or Sam-E: If youre finding yourself more easily depressed, St. Johns Wort or Sam-E may help. Widely touted as a natural tranquilizer, this herb helps relieve irritability, depression, and fatigue. Over 23 different studies have found that its effective in fighting depression -- when hormone levels plunge suddenly.

Kava Kava: Helps in reducing anxiety, fighting depression, and leveling mood swings, kava kava has been shown to be quite effective. One recent study found that women with menopausal symptoms taking 100 mg of kava kava three times a day reported a difference after only one week.

Valerian: If youre suffering from insomnia, a common symptom, valerian may help. Its used widely in Europe to treat sleep disturbances, as well as for nervousness and menstrual problems. Its also known as an anxiety reliever -- so may help with mood swings and tension.

Altering your diet in small ways can have the greatest positive effect on your body. For instance, by staying away from hot drinks, youre not giving your body reason to heat up and produce a hot flash. At the same time, reducing your caffeine intake (which often comes in the form of hot drinks, including coffee and tea) will naturally help you sleep better at night, which will keep your mood and mental state healthy.

Lastly, replacing these drinks with water and juice will keep your bones and muscles well-lubricated, prevent osteoporosis from settling in, and temper your general aches and pains. We know its no easy task to give up coffee, but think of the endless benefits of this one relatively minor change to your diet.

One of the most commonly complained about symptoms of menopause is the weight gain that seems to come along with it. Put simply, your body isnt burning calories in the same way it once was, so if you dont change your dieteven if its already a healthy one youre bound to gain a few pounds around the waist.

Changing your diet now, simply by avoiding a few foods that are bound to make other symptoms worse, while increasing the foods high in certain vitamins while remaining low in calories, will help you to maintain your figure while giving your body the nutrients it needs to fight off the worst symptoms of menstruation or menopause.

For instance, foods high in potassium, including most fruits, will help you keep your mind sharp while promoting healthy water flushing throughout your body (which will reduce cramps and bloating), while keeping your muscles and bones lubricated and strong including your needy joints and your thinning vaginal walls. In short, this is the time in your life when an apple a day couldnt ring more true!

Oily fish--including salmon, tuna, and vegetable oils, are often recommended by nutritionists for anyone wanting to keep their minds sharp. But these oils are also useful in helping keep your muscles from drying, while helping your digestive system.

Everything from Vitamins C and E to herbal remedies such as Dong Quai and Wild Yam Root are superior to abating the menstrual and menopausal symptoms than any pharmaceutical. You can explore the countless ways in which these small changes or additions to your diet will not only combat the unique symptoms youre going through, but the ways in which you can identify these symptoms quickly to lead a healthy life during your menstrual years and long after menopause.

Lets talk about soyits been in the news, and for good reason, but where do you start? Many of us would buy a chunk of tofu, which, lets face it, can be tasteless, but it doesnt end there, you dont need to move to Japan to figure out how to add it to your diet. You dont need to give up eating cheeseburgers to enjoy the occasional veggie burger, but adding some soy to your diet has abated the negative symptoms of menstruation and menopause for millions of women. If youve not eaten many soy products, dont turn up your nose yetin addition to abating your negative peri- or menopause symptoms, you may find that you actually like it! Not to mention soy is a lot less expensive compared to prescriptions, surgery and negative aftereffects.
